Song Lyrics

I don’t know why he suddenly thought of it, but Alfonso forced me to co-write a song (co-write is an overstatement right now because I’m the one who’s doing all the writing and he just edits it since I don’t know the format of a song). I’ve written one song with him before, and I have to admit, it was a success. The song is for our graduation and it has this John Mayer feel to it. This song, however, is far from yearbooks and reunions. Alf writes heartbreak songs, I write perspective songs so together, we made this song about a guy who’s in love with a prostitue who doesn’t love him back the way he wants to because she’s still sleeping around even though the guy can take her away from her job.

Inspired by the Pixies “Hey!”, maybe?

Lyrics:

You’re only doing this to me

Because you enjoy seeing buildings fall

And I’m too young and naive

It’s hard to get inside the prison of your thoughts

When you’re dressed for the night

For the heartbroken and heartless

I’ll be sleeping next to your shadow

You’ll be sleeping with your wages

In the darkness, how hard is it

To recognize familiar faces?

You’re only doing this to me

Because you’re holding my strings

I can’t believe I told you to run

When you didn’t even want to step forward

You’re too hungry for attention

And one’s too small a number for you

I’ll be sleeping next to your shadow

You’ll be sleeping with your wages

In the darkness, how hard is it

To recognize familiar faces?

The price tags prove they’ll never love

And the cameras show you’re just a face

I try to tell you this

But you have your own ways

I’ll be sleeping next to your shadow

You’ll be sleeping with your wages

In the darkness, how hard is it

To recognize familiar faces?

P.S. Take note of my messy handwriting, doodles, and the creases on the paper. I am a very untidy person.

Some Drawings I Made In The Past…

which I am now posting here because I got kind of lazy uploading new drawings to my deviantart. I’m just kind of promoting the old things I did. This is my deviantart http://iamnotalyanna.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=48 but I don’t really see any point of going there since all the good things I did are now in this post and I don’t think I’m going to put new things there anymore.

Anyway…

Me as a baby. Oil pastels.

Old comic I didn't continue.

Male model Cole Mohr. Me gusta 🙂

Inspired by a Neil Gaiman story.

A drawing of my dad's dad.

The Things I Want

Warm Bodies UK

Written by Isaac Marion. My sister has the ebook but there's nothing like having the real thing in your hands.

The Walking Dead One

I've wanted this for ages but it's hard to find since the it's so popular. My sister already saw a copy of this book but when I asked my dad if he could buy it for me, he refused. I can't believe it. He promised me he'd buy if for me but when it finally appears, he says no. Damn.

Forever Alone

I love Rage Toons. My favorite meme face is Forever Alone because the meme's are always funny in a true-to-life way. I'm not sure what I'll do with this, though.

Sponge Bob Square Pants Headphones

Spongebob! Need I say more?

Laptop

Because it sucks to share.

Prisma Colors

I have these Maped colored pencils which do okay but don't really satisfy me because i can't smudge them and blend the colors. Unfortunately, Prisma cannot be found here.

Glasses

I already have glasses but since I'm careless, I kind of scratched the lens. I want these huge ones because they don't make me look so nerdy. Also, unlike some people who have perfect eyesight, I'll actually use them daily.

Monster Journal

Journals like these are easy to make but since I'm a lazy fuck, I'd buy one. This is where I can write all the personal stuff that I can't post in this blog.

Moleskine Sketchbook

Me gusta.

Hedgehog

I've had a lot of pets (dogs, mostly) but I want one of these cute buggers to be mine.

Band Challenge (The Academy Is…)

TITLE: Toasted Skin

ARTIST: The Academy Is

ALBUM: Santi

So the season’s changed your face,
toasted skin turned darker shades
so as to better disguise your figure from the streetlights.

First floor window opened up
as you tip-toe on the back porch,
to meet the new girl on the corner,
Make your big plans for the summer.

No one’s gonna stay inside,
We’re singing,
(dododododo)
We are finally here,
and we’re not going nowhere without our friends.
And we can’t stop singing,
(dododododo)
Everybody’s making sure we stay up till sunset,
but we can’t forget.

If we ever find our way back,
this is all we’ve got.

S-so you borrow your best friend’s Jeep,
cracked her windshield and lost her keys.
Crashed the rich kids’ parties,
got kicked off of private beaches.
We introduced our friends to yours,
and we would laugh while we were ignored.
And from coast to coast, we’ll soon disperse,
but let’s live tonight like it’s our first.

We’ve got fast food, tattoos, late talks, longer walks,
checking for the music, for the fireworks and alcohol.

No one’s gonna stay inside,
we’re singing,
(dododododo)
We are finally here,
and we’re not going nowhere without our friends.
And we can’t stop singing,

Everybody’s making sure we stay up till sunset,
but we can’t forget.

If we ever find our way back,
this is all we’ve got.

I remember sleeping in with the shades drawn,
casting shadows on the bed
Tomorrow feels like it’s meant for the fight,
soaring beyond, twisting above.
And when I sleep, I still can feel it,
I can feel it, I can feel.
When I sleep, I still can feel it,
I can feel it, I can feel.
When I sleep, I still can feel it,
I can feel it, I can feel.

No one’s gonna stay inside,
we’re singing,
(dododododo)
Fuck yeah!
Finally here, and we’re not going nowhere without our friends.
And we can’t stop singing,

Everybody’s making sure we stay up ’till sunset,
but we can’t forget.

If we ever find our way back,
if we ever find our way back.

First floor window opened up,
as you tip-toe on the back porch.
(if we ever find our way back)
To meet the new girl on the corner,
make your big plans for the summer.
(if we ever find our way back)

If we ever find our way back,
this is all we’ve got.

When I have nothing better to do, I challenge myself to listen to the songs of one artist for twenty-four hours. It doesn’t matter if they only have two albums or even one, like when I challenged myself to tune in to Panic at the Disco for a whole day. What matters is that there’s only one group/solo artist feeding you ears in that twenty-four hours. It gets kind of sickening but it’s a whole lot of fun, too. You suddenly discover that you like this song you said you hated the first time you heard it or find that the lyrics to the song your currently listening to is abundant with poetic justice. It’s also a way to wonder what the lyricist had been thinking about while he had been writing that particular song. Also, it’s a way to connect with the musicians and the other geniuses behind it.

I’d already gone through with Radiohead (this being the first), then Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Panic at the Disco, and Aerosmith. No one is exempt from my this little experiment of mine. Yesterday, I listened to The Academy Is. And now, even without my ipod, I can still hear William Beckett’s beautifully unique and soulful voice in my head.

The challenge is over but I’m still playing their album Santi. The song “Toasted Skin” is stuck on my mind. I love it’s happy-go-lucky beat, the guitar riff at the start, the way William seemed to enjoy singing this particular song. I am listening to it right now. It is not a well-known song which explains why there is no video here, and at first, I didn’t even like it. but after the third playlist loop I found myself singing with William.

It certainly is a ‘summer’ song, the kind of song you’d sing with a group of friends while playing an acoustic guitar in the beach.

Graduation Lyrics?

Intro

Been letting all those days

All that time slip away

But now the curtains are closing

And everything’s going

Wait a minute, please

I feel we’re going too fast

Press pause then rewind

Take me back to the past

Do you still see the days

Of laughing in hallways

Or running down the streets

Wearing hearts on our sleeves

And there were

No tears, no fears, no thoughts of goodbyes

No doubt that there’s a light

Shining brightly for us

Bridge:

All the words that we said

All the steps that we take

They left marks on the floor

So when we walk out the door

They’ll always remember

Al ways remember us

So now

CHORUS:

Here we are

Breaking the high walls

Raising our voices

Here we are

Faced with the crossroads

Taking our chances

With the world and its offer

Be it pain or disaster

We’ll let it come our way

Cause we know that we won’t break

Here we are, Here we are

Interlude

When ten years pass

Will we still see each other

Walk down memory lane

If the skies have turned grey

And in our reunions

While we talk of our lives

Will the moment still be sweet?

Or will we just drift away?

(Insert short instrumental)

Well, for now

Chorus

Flip the pages of our yearbook

Try to take a good look

At the pictures of your friends

And all the teachers that you had

These people that you miss

Those moments of shared bliss

Hold on to those days

Hold on to those years

Hold on and remember

Hold on

Chorus

(fade out)

I know, cheesy, but it’s a graduation song. That’s our project for music: make your own graduation song. It’s actually a competition. Two groups per class, then the winner that competes with the three others winners. It’s not an easy thing to win, especially since the good musicians are spread out. They’ll judge the lyrics first. I wrote everything except half of the chorus which was written by Alfie (http://alfonsobassig.wordpress.com/) and so far, the chorus is the only part that has a tune.

Senior year is so stressful. And this isn’t the only project we have that’s hard. We also have to make a video for our Health class, advertising proper care of our heart. If I could only suggest that the best way to keep us healthy was to not bombard us with these projects…And then we have to make a school website for our Computer class. Then our English project is this resume thing that I don’t really understand and for Filipino we have this monologue thing that remains a mystery to me and also that Physics buzzer project.

No sleeping tonight.

Again.

Me and my extremely messy handwriting.
